May 14, 2020: *** #Quandary of an abandoned victim ***

Ever wonder what is worse than being a #victim? Its being a discredited one!
-Tabish Shaikh

All the #professionals around the globe are familiar with "#SpeakUp" policies. Almost all the companies, especially all #MNC have this as a mandatory training/session as part of their onboarding process. #ZeroTolerancePolicy towards unethical practices is emphasized more than anything else. However, none would admit even if they know it in their hearts that what is being practiced is far away from what is being preached.

Anyone who dare stand against the authorities, "#SYSTEM" (as they call it) or a #personOfInfluence goes through almost the same treatment yet all shut their eyes each time it reoccurs.

One of the virtues of the "#SYSTEM" that I do admire is they "#ProtectTheirOwn". Sadly, in their tendency to do so they would go to any lengths and cross any lines!

Generally, the below "#StrategicApproach" is followed to "#NeutralizeTheThreat" in such cases:

  1. Collate their past mistakes. All men are #vulnerable at some point and everyone makes mistakes. That's how we grow, isn't it? So, no real challenge here.

  2. Collate their weaknesses. Nobody is perfect and we all have our shortcomings and weaknesses. Not challenging again!

  3. Turn key people against you. The ethical ones are tough but a story of a karmic justice isn't far fetched. For other people, well in general they are always wanting something. Offer that to them and they wouldn't mind extending their support when required. Promise of a job, a promotion, onshore assignment, an extended onshore tenure, promise of a payback/revenge or simply promise of a good show have all proved quite effective.

  4. Breaking the inner circle or core support. This is the toughest but if you see they don't need them on their side, they just want them to not defend the victim and not resist the unjust actions as they happen.

  5. Use point# 1 and 2 to paint the victim black by twisting the facts. Keep building pressure on the victim by amplifying their past mistakes and weaknesses. Shift the narrative/focus from the key issue. Use people from point# 3 to #defame, #underrate and #discredit the victim. Point# 4 is self sufficient to break the victims spirit and courage and force him to "#quit" and "#moveon".

I know I haven't written a word about the "plight" of the discredited victim and Its more about "#HowTo discredit a victim". I'll write about the #predicament this leaves the victim in on May 17.

For now, I leave it for you to turn your head around this. A short "empathy" exercise perhaps! One of the #ThingsToDo during lockdown!
